The 2022 Asia Cup is drawing near. Team India will play a few games against Zimbabwe in the coming weeks, but most stars will be rested for the upcoming cricketing bonanza. The Virat Kohli Dilemma
Indian cricket fans love Virat Kohli. While he did rub off a few people the wrong way due to his aggressive behaviour, India now stands united in its wish to see him find his old form. Kohli has not scored an international century for more than 2 years, nor has he impressed in his last two IPL campaigns with Royal Challengers Bangalore. But he’ll be back in the lineup for this 2022 Asia Cup campaign.
As much as we want to see Kohli get back to his glory days, we recommend not betting on a comeback this summer. Something is wrong.
2022 Asia Cup Absenties
Jusprit Bumrah is one of the best seamers the world has seen in the last few years. He’s definitely the best India has to offer. But he has been left out of the squad due to a lingering injury and will be allowed to rest ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia. Harshal Patel, the RCB seamer, will also be missing from the lineup. India should be worried about its bowling capabilities in this Asia Cup.
From the betting standpoint, India will be hoping to bat first and pile up massive scores that will be hard to reach.
KL Rahul: The 2022 Asia Cup X-Factor
KL Rahul has been in and out of the squad of late due to a nagging injury and a bout of COVID-19. But he will open alongside Rohit Sharma in this 2022 Asia Cup. Will he click? Is he fit? Will he be able to shake off the rust from the get-go? Team India is certainly hoping so since both Sharma and Kohli have not really clicked this year. Rahul needs to average more than 40 runs per contest for India to click.
LCI Recommendation: There are too many question marks around his fitness and form. But if he starts off well enough, eh could be a good bet for the top run scorer in the competition.
2022 Asia Cup Spinners
The absence of Bumrah and Patel means that all eyes will be on the India’s spinners – Chahal, Jadeja, and Ashwin. The three will be bowling 4 full overs per game. While we expect Yuzi to get his job done, it remains to be seen how Jadeja and Ashwin will fare with the bat. Jadeja is one of the fittest lads in the team, but he’s not getting any younger and the team may even elect to rest him for a game or two. Jadeja’s last IPL campaign was very poor by his standards so hopefully he can regain some form.
LCI Recommendation: Check into the commentary before the games to understand how the pitches are looking. Not getting any spin may spell disaster for Team India.
The Indian Squad for the Upcoming 2022 Asia Cup: Rohit Sharma (C), KL Rahul (VC), Rishabh Pant (W), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Hooda, R. Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Dinesh Karthik (W), Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh
