Top 10 Batsmen for 2021 T20
A quick disclaimer. This list is not exhaustive in any way or form, nor has it been arranged in any particular order.
Without further ado, let’s dive into it.
Mohammad Babar Azam (Pakistan)
Age: 26 | T20 50s: 20 | T20 100s: 1 | T20 Top Score: 122 | T20 Average: 46.89
Pakistan is no longer the powerhouse of cricket like it used to be in the late 80s with Imran Khan, Javed Miandad, and Saleem Malik. But Babar Azam is a real specimen and he’s coming into this tournament in peak form (Watch out team India!). The Pakistani skipper recently knocked another half-century in a warm-up fixture against England. But will Pakistan play enough games for him to finish as the top scorer?
KL Rahul (India) – Our #1 Pick of our Top 10 Batsmen
Age: 29 | T20 50s: 11 | T20 100s: 2 | T20 Top Score: 110 | T20 Average: 39.92
Don’t be fooled by the lack of stats. KL Rahul has simply been in and out of the team due to the domination of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. But this time around, Team India will rely more on the Prince of Bangalore as Sharma starts to falter more often. Rahul’s form has been great in recent months as he ruthlessly punished all IPL 2021 bowlers to finish third in the Orange Cap race (626 runs in total). A safe bet.
Virat Kohli (India)
Age: 32 | T20 50s: 28 | T20 100s: 0 | T20 Top Score: 94 | T20 Average: 52.65
With 70 international centuries already under his belt, King Kohli will surely go down as one of the great batsmen of all time. Yes, he has lost his form during the unstable COVID-19 period, but most online betters will make sure to hedge their bets with this batting phenomenon from New Delhi. Kohli has also announced that he will return to his familiar No.3 spot in the order, another sign to be optimistic about his output. Kohli will always be in our Top 10 batsmen list no matter his form, because his quality and can burst out at any moment in time.
Glenn Maxwell (Australia) – Our #2 Pick of the Top 10 Batsmen list
Age: 33 | T20 50s: 9 | T20 100s: 3 | T20 Top Score: 145 | T20 Average: 31.78
Glenn Maxwell is a true late-bloomer. After failing to live up to expectations in his 20s, the Aussie has rediscovered himself after landing in Bangalore (RCB) a couple of seasons ago. Maxwell can play a wide range of shots, including his favorite reverse sweep, with ease. Australia is not as strong as it used to be and it will go only as far as Maxwell will take it with his impressive batting (and bowling) skills.
Shimron Hetmyer (West Indies)
Age: 24 | T20 50s: 2 | T20 100s: 0 | T20 Top Score: 61 | T20 Average: 19.96
Hetmyer was one of the standouts in the recently concluded IPL 2021. The Delhi Capitals middle-order batsman finished with 242 runs with a Strike Rate of 168.05! Don’t let the score total scare you, as his services were not always needed with Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan taking care of business. With “old men” Chris Gayle and Lendl Simmon expected to falter fast, Hetmyer will score a lot of runs.
Kane Williamson (New Zealand)
Age: 31 | T20 50s: 13 | T20 100s: 0 | T20 Top Score: 95 | T20 Average: 31.66
Simply put, Kane Williamson is peaking. He was in good form for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2021 and will be leading the Kiwi’s attack in this T20 World Cup as well. The team doesn’t have too many big names and hasn’t really impressed in the T20 format of late, but we expect Williamson to shine and produce a barrage of 50+ scores. If the bowling clicks, we can see New Zealand in the final-4. Stay tuned!
Quinton de Kock (South Africa)
Age: 28 | T20 50s: 11 | T20 100s: 0 | T20 Top Score: 79 | T20 Average: 35.15
Quinton de Kock will be the focal point of South Africa’s batting attack in the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup. His opening partner Aiden Markram should also be able to do some damage, but de Kock will be counted upon to bat through the innings and provide solid 50+ knocks. The Mumbai Indians player had an iffy summer in terms of form but should be locked in to power the Proteas to glory.
David Warner (Australia)
Age: 34 | T20 50s: 18 | T20 100s: 1 | T20 Top Score: 100 | T20 Average: 31.45
Just like Virat Kohli, Warner has had an amazing cricketing career. He is still opening for the Aussies and will be looking to impress in what looks like his last T20 World Cup. The form simply wasn’t there during IPL 2021, but Warner definitely has the quality to re-emerge and propel Australia to the latter stages of the tournament. Don’t be surprised if Warner scores in excess of 300 runs this time around.
Kusal Perera (Sri Lanka)
Age: 31 | T20 50s: 12 | T20 100s: 0 | T20 Top Score: 84 | T20 Average: 27.76
Just like Babar Azam and Pakistan, Perara is going to be the star attraction for Sri Lanka in this T20 World Cup. Once team captain and a Rajasthan Royals regular, he has many years of experience and will be asked to bat through the innings. The batting quality simply isn’t there, but you can count on Perera to put up over 200 runs in the group stages of the tournament.
Jonny Bairstow (England)
Age: 32 | T20 50s: 7 | T20 100s: 0 | T20 Top Score: 86 | T20 Average: 27.87
We have to include one Englishman in our Top 10 batsmen to watch. And Jonny Bairstow is by no means a prolific batsman, but he is a very effective one who can punish any bowler on his day. The English top order is not looking too convincing right now, which means that Bairstow will get to show off his batting skills more often than not. Looking to beat the odds and bet on a reliable batsman who is a serial overachiever with the bat? Look no further!
